The Nomura Preschool campus is a friendly, brightly colored and lovingly landscaped cluster of secure home-like buildings and an interior play yard which is not visible from the street. Its convenient location in the Richmond Annex is just two minutes from I-80 (Carlson Blvd exit) and I-580 (Bayview Ave exit) and offers ample drop-off parking.
Each Nomura Preschool classroom is self-contained by development class – Chickies (2 yrs), Roosters (3 yrs), Pandas (3-4 yrs), and Penguins (4-5 yrs) – and features distinct areas for various daily activities.
Meal time, art activities and other messy kinds of fun like Play-Doh play happen in a tiled section of the room with size-appropriate tables and chairs. Older children will also have academic time here in preparation for kindergarten or first grade. A soft, carpeted area is reserved for quieter time. This is where group story reading, private book reading time, floor puzzles and nap time are held.
Listening stations in some classrooms allow children to listen to audio stories and music on their own. Our youngest class, the Chickies have their own classroom building all to themselves. Each classroom is brightly decorated with stimulating posters, art projects and learning aids.
Nomura Preschool’s large outdoor yard and play area offers an exciting combination of play structures, fully rubberized and mulched flooring (no concrete!), a grass field, student garden and sandbox. There’s also a ball play area and structure with three different hoop heights, appropriate for all ages.
This outdoor space is entirely hidden from the street, making it cleaner and safer. The play structures (installed in 2011) offer a wide range of activities for our preschool students. As children grow and develop physically, they are able to climb, reach and move through more sections and learn new ways to navigate.
A student garden bed is collectively tended through the spring and summer months. Students help plant and tend an assortment of vegetables, preparing the soil, watering, and pulling weeds. They love to watch them grow from seeds to seedlings to full plants, ready for harvest. These vegetables are then sent home with the children to enjoy with their families, inspiring green thumbs and healthy diets.
A sandbox and grass field allow children to explore nature’s textures and unleash their imaginations together. The Chicky class has their own grassy yard and play structure, ensuring a safer playtime for our smallest students.
